The 1 September marks the 60th anniversary of the first female member appointment to Senior Medical Staff at the Royal Melbourne Hospital – Dr Margaret Henderson OBE.
Dr Henderson was born in 1915. She graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1938 and was appointed a Resident Medical Officer at the RMH for 1939-40. In 1941 was awarded a Doctor in Medicine. Following a time working in London and Switzerland, in 1959 she became the first woman on the Senior Medical Staff at RMH upon her appointment as Honorary Physician to Inpatients, a pioneering appointment she held until 1975.
Thank you for paving the way for female health professionals at our hospital, Dr Henderson.
