Associate Professor Deborah Colville, who retired from the Chair of the RACS Women In Surgery Committee in February 2002, said that challenges remain in drawing on the strengths of women Fellows through increasing their decision-making roles in setting surgical policy, surgical curricula and standards.
On 3rd October 2002 the World Health Organization (WHO) released the first World report on violence and health. The report looked at a broad range of violence, child abuse and neglect, youth violence, partner abuse, sexual abuse, elder abuse, self directed violence and collective community violence. It is hoped that the report will catalyse the implementation of local, national and international interventions to prevent ongoing abuse (Zwi et al., 2002).
