Professor Catherine Crock (AM) is a respected physician and patient-centred advocate who has worked in the health care industry for over 25 years, and is renowned for combining her love for the arts and medicine to effect positive change for both patients and staff in healthcare.
In 2000, Dr Crock founded and continues to chair the Hush Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that utilises the Arts to transform patient-centred care in the healthcare system. She has been fundamental in working with some of Australia’s finest musicians to create music to alleviate stress and anxiety for patients and healthcare professionals in critical areas of the hospital. Additionally, she has collaborated with playwright, Alan Hopgood, to create productions for hospitals to increase awareness of patient-centred care, communication and safety.
In addition to her work with the Hush Foundation, Dr Crock has been recognised for her immense success as a patient advocate with the following achievements:
- 2004 Royal Children’s Hospital’s Chairman medal for advocating for families
- Invited to be a delegate at the Prime Minister’s 2020 summit to discuss family and patient-centred care
- Awarded the prestigious Australian Churchill Fellowship to study the benefits of family involvement in effective health care
- The Minister’s Award for outstanding individual achievement at the Victorian Public Healthcare Awards 2006
- 2013 Inductee on the Victorian Women’s Roll of Honour
- 2007 The Australian Council for Healthcare Standards National Award for ‘Clinical Excellence and Patient Safety’ in conjunction with her team at Royal Children’s Hospital
- 2015 Australian Financial Review’s 100 Women of Influence within the area of Culture
- 2015 Member of the Order of Australia for services to medicine, to community healthcare standards and the Arts
She is a working mother of 5 children, and has recently joined Deakin University’s Centre for Social and Early Emotional Development (SEED).

Associate Professor Vicki Kotsirilos (AM) is a highly respected GP with more than 30 years of working experience and is a championing advocate for the use of integrative medicine to ensure wholistic and quality therapeutic care of the patient.
She was the founding chair of the RACGP’s Integrative Medicine Working Group and was also the founder and founding president of the Australasian Integrative Medicine Association (AIMA), the peak medical and health professional group representing medical practitioners practicing integrative medicine.
Dr Kotsirilos has worked extensively with many of Australia’s peak medical and Government regulatory bodies including the RACGP, AMA, PSR, AHPRA, Therapeutic GoodsAdministration, Complementary Medicine Evaluation Committee and Adverse Drug Reactions Advisory Body. She regularly lectures to medical practitioners and the public on Nutritional and Environmental Medicine.
Amongst her many accomplishments are:
- 2013 RACGP Honorary Fellowship Award
- 2014 Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (ACNEM) Award for her outstanding service to nutritional and environmental medicine
- 2016 Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia for her significant contribution to integrative medicine, health practitioner standards, medical education and the environment
- 2017 Australia Day Environmental Award for the Bayside City Council for her extensive environment and community work

Dr Kotsirilos remains an active member of the RACGP and has adjunct academic positions with Western Sydney University, La Trobe University and previously with Monash University. She has co-written a textbook focusing on integrative medicine titled, “A guide to evidence-based integrative and complementary medicine” (Elsevier). To this day, she continues to write a monthly column for the Medical Observer on evidence based integrative medicine and the role of lifestyle in treating health conditions, entitled ‘Integrative Perspectives’.

Dr Neela Janakiramanan is a Plastics and Reconstructive Surgeon specialising in hand and wrist surgery, and an advocate for refugees and working conditions of female doctors. Whilst undergoing her surgical training, Dr Janakiramanan also completed her Masters in Public Health which has spurred on her passion in health programme development and implementation in less fortunate areas. She has undergone extensive overseas training and now is only one of very few plastic surgeons in Victoria with extra training and qualifications to deal with a full range of conditions pertaining to the hand and wrist.
When she isn’t working at The Bays or Eastern Health, Dr Janakiramanan is a mother of 3 and writes regularly for The Women’s Agenda, an online website that encourages female leadership and empowerment amongst professional women. She has been running a series on social media profiling women and non-binary medical professionals titled #InspiringDoctors.
Dr Janakiramanan has recently celebrated the success of her grassroots campaign with Dr Sarah Townsend to get critically ill children and families off Nauru. In an open letter to the Prime Minister, Dr Janakiramanan was able to collect signatures from more than 5500 doctors and 250 organisations to sign a petition which was delivered to Parliament House.

Dr Magdalena Simonis is a highly respected GP with more than 25 years experience working in the primary healthcare system and amongst numerous other titles, is the current President of the Victorian Medical Women’s Society.
As a GP, she has an interest in preventative health and ensuring her patients are educated and empowered by their health (particularly in the area of women’s health). She is also passionate about enforcing change through knowledge, and maintaining quality and excellence of care in healthcare, which has led her to the following appointments:
