And we’re in 2022!
We’re only in February, but what an action-packed start of the year we’ve had so far. Borders are opening up, Australians of the Year are in the press for reasons, and we are all trying to move towards COVID normal whilst facing daily struggles at our workplaces.
To the interns who started this year, welcome to the medical community! It’s a huge milestone, and an exciting stage of your lives. There will be moments of uncertainty and moments of great joy and everything in between, but please know that you are a valued member of the team and that you have VMWS and the medical community rooting for you (we can all remember our first few days on the job).
At our recent strategic planning meeting, we tweaked our vision for the next several years, with our intention being to seek equitable health and wellbeing for all Victorians, with a particular focus on marginalised communities and vulnerable populations, as well as equitable health and wellbeing for all women and non-binary doctors throughout all stages of their personal and professional lives. We intend to achieve our goals by using a collaborative, inclusive effort and approaching advocacy with an intersectional lens, and we are all pumped to work towards these new goals. I’m also really excited to announce that we have some amazing events planned for this year, events that have been organised with YOU in mind, no matter what stage of life and career you’re in. I certainly hope you take advantage of the expertise we have recruited for these events. Follow our social media closely as we start to talk about them!
We’re also moving towards providing a shorter, punchier newsletter where we aim to bring to you snapshots of what’s happening in relevant spaces as well as what’s happening behind the scenes with the committee; this is part of a larger social media and promotional effort. I hope you will enjoy the content coming to you both via email and social media in the months that follow.
