On Saturday May 18th the Victorian Medical Women’s Society held their annual workshop to assist medical students and junior doctors in refining their re-employment approach. Entitled “How to Write A Stellar CV and Ace the Interview”, it was, put simply, just that; a stellar event equipping medical students and junior doctors with the information and skills required to ace the job application process.
More than 50 attendees engaged in the workshop, which featured many notable and experienced doctors who were able to share their knowledge in this area. The panellists included:
- A/Prof Louisa Ng, Sub-Dean for University of Melbourne’s RMH Clinical School & Supervisor of Intern Training, RMH
- Dr Anna Dunn, Respiratory Consultant & co-founder of Doc-To-Doc Network
- Dr Caroline Johnson, experienced GP and tutor at the University of Melbourne
- Dr Cristina Murphy, Obstetrics & Gynaecology Registrar at RWH
- Dr Kelly Champane, GP Registrar and tutor at the University of Melbourne
- Dr Rachael Coutts, Emergency Physician and Associate Director of Medical Education, Northern Health
A/Prof Louisa Ng chaired a panel discussion about handy hints on how to best tackle the daunting prospect of the interview. Dr Anna Dunn concluded with the expectations of cover letters, and CVs, and how to create an exemplary one. The workshop also allowed for attendees to receive personalised feedback from the panellists on how to enhance their own CV’s during the break out session.
This event not only provided insight into the job application process, but also provided inspiration to female medical students and junior doctors to support one another in their career progression.
