2025 has been a year of meaningful growth for VMWS, and I am so grateful for everything we have achieved together. In my first year as President after serving on the committee since 2021—it has been an honour to help lead the longest-running association for women medical practitioners and medical students in Victoria.
As the only organisation dedicated solely to representing the female medical workforce in this state, VMWS carries a special responsibility to advocate for women in medicine. This purpose has guided every initiative and collaboration throughout the year.
Working with a passionate and dedicated committee, we strengthened our community and expanded our reach. Membership increased by 89%, while engagement grew by 72.6% on Facebook and 100% on Instagram, reflecting the growing need for connection, representation, and community among medical women.
Our four major events—Ask Me Anything: Specialty Training, Prescribing Parenthood, The Hospital Hustle, and Women in MedTech (our first collaboration with Nexus MedTech)—brought medical women together to learn, share experiences, and support one another.
We were also proud to award two VMWS Women in Leadership Scholarships through a more transparent and equitable selection process.
Our advocacy continued to grow through collaborations with the AMA, AFMW, MWIA, NCWV and Women’s Health Victoria, ensuring women’s voices remain central in policy and leadership spaces. Committee governance this year emphasised fairness, clarity and transparency, reinforcing our commitment to equitable leadership within VMWS.
Thank you to every member, volunteer and supporter who contributed to VMWS in 2025. Your engagement and belief in this community are what make our society so strong.
I warmly encourage you to explore the full Annual Report 2025, which highlights our key achievements, celebrates member milestones, acknowledges those we lost, and outlines our financial and membership updates.
