VMWS is thrilled to offer two fully sponsored places in Monash University’s Women in Leadership Program! We will cover the entire course fee ($1590) for two ambitious women looking to develop their leadership skills. This scholarship was highly sought after in previous years, and due to overwhelming interest, we are excited to bring it back in 2025!
About the Women in Leadership Program:
This two-day program features motivational speakers from clinical, academic, and professional fields, designed to inspire, encourage, and support women in reaching their full career potential.

Selection Criteria:
This exclusive opportunity is open to all current VMWS members, with one position allocated for PGY3 and beyond and one position for a medical student to PGY2. Not a member yet? Join now!
Selection will be based on the following criteria:
- Demonstrated experience in leadership roles – e.g., holding leadership positions in societies, committees, professional organisations, or community groups.
- Commitment to equity and advocacy in medicine – Applicants should highlight any involvement in initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in healthcare.
- Evidence of career progression and leadership potential – A strong desire to grow as a leader, with clear goals for how this program will enhance career development.
- Active involvement in professional development and mentoring – Engagement in activities such as teaching, mentoring, or participation in leadership training programs will be viewed favourably.
- Willingness to contribute to the VMWS community – Scholarship recipients should demonstrate a commitment to sharing their learnings through a written reflection, a VMWS event, or an online post.
- Advocacy and leadership initiatives – Prior or ongoing involvement in medical advocacy, policy work, or leadership-focused projects (preferred but not essential).
Scholarship recipients will be expected to provide a short written summary of their experience.
Selection Process:
- All applications will be reviewed by at two independent VMWS executive committee members. Applications will then be anonymised before being reviewed by the wider committee.
- The top two candidates will be chosen based on merit via a blinded committee vote.
- VMWS internal committee members who apply for the scholarship will be excluded from the voting process.
